Since our founding in 1985, American Overhead Door has been committed to being forward-thinking in all aspects of our business. To that end, we’re proud to be an active participant in the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Environmental Leadership Program. This voluntary program, which is open to all businesses, nonprofits and other organizations working in the state, provides a framework for minimizing waste and improving overall sustainability — key goals for any business looking out for their long-term future.

How It Works

The Environmental Leadership Program is a three-tiered program which organizations progress through sequentially:

• Bronze Achiever organizations have taken significant steps to reduce water and energy use, implemented a waste minimization strategy or made other improvements to the way they do business with the goal of being more environmentally responsible.
• Silver Partner organizations have gone above and beyond the requirements for Bronze status, and have begun to actively develop a functional environmental management system (EMS). Silver status is a three-year process, at the end of which the EMS will be fully implemented and certified by an independent auditor.
• Gold Leader organizations have a functional EMS in place and have initiated a continuous improvement cycle to guide future environmental management goals. Gold Leader status must be reapplied for every three years, a process which requires submitting to an independent audit.

As of 2015, only 105 organizations in the state have achieved Gold Leader status. Visit the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment website to learn more the program.

Where We Are

American Overhead Door is currently in its second year as a Silver Partner, on track to achieve Gold status by 2017. We have undertaken major environmental sustainability projects to limit our resource use, including developing a company-wide waste minimization strategy that involves extensive cardboard and metal recycling.

Today, our operation recycles over 125,000 lbs. of metal each year. This has led to a significant lessening of the amount of waste we send to landfill, and of the overall environment impact of our business.

At the community level, American Overhead Door is active in developing strategic partnerships with other local organizations, including Colorado Industrial Recycling, a Gold Leader company. By working together, we can share resources and help each other be more proactive about environmental sustainability.
